10.00 – 12.00 | European Parliament (A1G369) | LLLP & EAEA

This third meeting of the Lifelong Learning Interest Group in 2018 will see the presence of  the EC Vice President Jyrki Katainen and will focus on how the next EU Multiannual Financial Framework and generation of EU programmes can support education, training and lifelong learning. This ranges from the flagship Erasmus+ programme to others which touch on various dimensions of learning such as Horizon Europe and the Rights and Values programme, or the European Social Fund+. Recent developments at the European level – including the proposed vision of a European Education Area and the first-ever Education Summit – show the growing recognition of the role that learning in all its forms can play in securing a better future for Europe’s citizens, as well as the immense benefit of EU cooperation in complementing Member States’ policies in this area.

13.00 – 15.00 | European Parliament | Learning for Well-Being Foundation

What if our world were a kinder, wiser, more compassionate place? A place where we exercise our minds just like we exercise our bodies? A place where transforming your mind not only improves your own well-being, but cascades to the well-being of others in your community and around the globe? This innovative vision will be the main topic of the event. Our research, rooted in neuroscience, comes down to one basic question: What constitutes a healthy mind? How does this apply to Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC).

13.00 – 15.00 | European Parliament (A1G369) | AEGEE & WOSM

Through this workshop, the organisers will try to answer the following questions: what is the place of non-formal and informal learning in active citizenship? How can volunteering, community action , and youth work foster a sense of belonging and result in a more sustainable civic engagement among young people? The event will see a policy debate on the topic, with insightful remarks and an interactive discussion with different stakeholders to give the topic the all-round perspective that it deserves. Civic engagement cannot rest entirely on the shoulders of the formal education system, and civil society organisations are here to take the lead in this field.

9.00 – 11.00 | SOLIDAR | Expertise France & LLLP

We are currently facing the alarming consequences of production and consumer choices. “The customer is always right” but individuals’ consumption choices are often overshadowed by limited understanding and knowledge, as well as lack of awareness of the important role they play in the digital and non-digital market. Taking this impact into consideration commands us to grant a more prominent role to education in the acquisition and development of knowledge, skills, values and attitudes. What role can lifelong learning as education happening throughout life and “lifewide” (i.e. in formal, non-formal and informal education) play to foster citizens’ awareness of sustainability issues through their consumption habits and choices? What is the added value of e-learning and ICT platforms to encourage the transformation of behaviours in these regards?

11.00 – 13.00 | European Parliament (A5G305)| EEE-YFU & ESN

Learning or improving competences in another language is one of the most tangible results of mobility, especially in long-term experiences. At the same time, learning periods abroad that integrate non-formal education methods and immersion in the host culture allow for much more than language learning: they offer the opportunity to develop cultural awareness, appreciation of diversity, curiosity, and intercultural communication skills. The debate will explore the role that learning mobility plays in the development of intercultural and multilingual competences, from a lifelong learning perspective.

14.30 – 16.30 | European Parliament (A3H1)| ESN & LLLP

In May 2018 a Pilot Project on the engagement of Erasmus+ students as volunteers in the local community was submitted to the European Parliament. The concrete objective of the project is to develop a framework that will allow to roll out ‘Erasmus Student local volunteering’ as an integral part of the programme in the future. This action has the potential of strengthening active citizenship when the students return home, helping to create a generation of active European citizens who have lived a mobility experience as a student. While volunteers are chronically underrated, their role can never be overestimated. LLLP has develop best practices in the field through their project “Comanity”, whose aim is to bridge the existing gap between marginalised young people and public institutions such as youth services.

16.30 – 18.30 | SOLIDAR| AEGEE

The event will introduce to AEGEE’s flagship project, Summer University (SU), and its special 30th anniversary edition of 2018. While many tools are put forward in education systems and beyond to try and shape the next generations of Europeans, few have proven to be as effective as mobility schemes. Through mobility programmes in particular, youth organisations can address the growing need for young citizens to keep active outside of the classroom. What is the place of youth organisations in this context? How can short-term mobility programmes and intercultural exchange foster European citizenship? To what extent do they contribute to building active citizens?

11.00 – 13.00 | EESC (JDE63) | eucen & LLLP

The world of work is rapidly and constantly changing, calling for proactive responses to new demands. Demographic changes, a new generation approaching the world of work, and most of all the emergence of new (types of) jobs require a holistic approach to supporting people to cope with labour market transitions. The debate will present concrete tools that increase the employability of people with low skills through information and communication technologies, and will further elaborate on different forms of  cooperation between different stakeholders at all levels and the role that the European Union, in collaboration with civil society actors, can play in fostering the exchange of ideas and good practices within the career guidance sector.
