Today little is known about social innovation compared to the vast amount of research into innovation in business and science. EUCIS-LLL understands social innovation as changes in ideas, practices and institutions that aim to resolve existing social, cultural, economic and environmental challenges for the general interest. We talk about “social” innovation because society is at the core of the analysis. In education and training, it covers a wide range of models from childcare to web-based learning, second-chance schools, to the delivery of learning in prisons or in hospitals.
